Demak Mosque

Demak Mosque is the oldest mosque in Indonesia. The mosque is located in the village Kauman, Demak, Central Java. The mosque is believed to have a gathering place of scholars (Wali Sanga) spread Islam in Java. The founder of this mosque is estimated Raden Patah, the first king of the Sultanate of Demak, at about the 15th century.

This mosque has a main buildings and porch. Main building has four main pillars called "soko guru". This pillar is said to come from splinters of wood, so called 'saka tatal'. Pyramid shaped roof is supported by eight pillars which called Saka Majapahit. At the location of the Demak Mosque complex, there are several graves of the kings of the Sultanate of Demak and servant. There were also a museum, which contains various things about the history of the establishment of the Demak Mosque .
