Borobudur

Borobudur is the biggest temple in Indonesia. Borobudur temple is located in Magelang, Central Java. Location of the temple is approximately 100 km to the southwest Semarang and 40 km northwest of Yogyakarta. This temple was founded by the Mahayana Buddhists around 800 BC during the reign of wangsa (dynasty) Syailendra. The founder of the Borobudur Temple is King Samaratungga. The possibility of this temple was built around 824 BC and was completed around the year 900 AD in the reign of Queen Pramudawardhani who is the daughter of Samaratungga. While architects who contributed to build this temple according to the story of a hereditary named Gunadharma.

One of them states that the name is probably derived from the word Sambharabhudhara, which means "mountain" (bhudara) where the slopes are located terraces. In addition there are several other etymology. Borobudur comes from two words "bara (coal)" and "beduhur". Said "bara" (coal) to have originated from "vihara" (the monastery), while there is also another explanation in which the "bara" comes from Sanskrit (Sansekerta) which means temple or "biara" (monastery complex) and "beduhur" meaning is "high", or to remind the Balinese language means "above". So the point is a monastery or hostel located in the high ground.
